Play Kitchen

I am so proud of Byron for constructing this beautiful little kitchen. We were wanting to give Maddie a kitchen for her 2nd birthday, but I could not decide on one to buy - I kept returning to home-built kitchens that I found on Pinterest. We found the design from this site: http://ana-white.com. A great resource for tons of build-it-yourself projects. Byron built the kitchen in a weekend, but did have a little trouble with the oven door (he built four by the time all was said and done). The knobs are from Anthro, and the "burners" are actually wall mounted door bumpers that I spray painted metallic silver. The curtain was my main contribution. I found the fabrics at Stitch Lab, this great fabric store on South 1st street in Austin, and used the instructions from the Crafting Chicks: http://thecraftingchicks.com/2010/04/giveaway-2-custom-photo-backdrop-ana-from-knock-off-wood-my-latest-project.html - they made an amazing play kitchen.

We might not have saved much money building it ourselves, but are thrilled with the final result, and now Byron is looking around the house for more projects that involve a saw and hammer.

Napkins

About a year ago, I decided to quit using paper napkins and paper towels. For the most part it has been an easy transition. When I decided to quit using paper napkins, I made little napkins out of flour sacks and squares of printed Amy Butler fabric. At the time, I thought they looked pretty cute, but these days those napkins are looking extremely ragged. I decided to take it up a notch and make real cloth napkins, with linen on one side. I found the tutorial here: http://kirtsy.com/2011/07/25/cloth-napkins-how-to/?kp=YToxOntzOjE6ImkiO2k6NDAyO30=.

Wall Stenciling Finished!

Well, it took me a while to finally finish the wall painting, but I am definitely pleased with the outcome, especially from a distance. Some areas of the wall looks a little "painterly" when you get up close, but I'm just going to leave it as is.

Burp Cloths

I have been making these as gifts since someone gave me a set when Maddie was born. Super easy to sew...and an inexpensive, yet personal gift to give.
